Online Psychic Readers
An Overview
Online psychic readers are the logical extension of your more commonplace psychic readers working from residential areas and downtown in most cities. While many psychic readers only operate from their local offices, many find that they can perform readings just as effectively online, and as such provide their services to anyone who sees fit to log in and chat them up.
Some psychics find that they are unable to perform readings online, and these obviously do not market themselves online. Still others do court their clients on the web through various sites, finding that their own energies and methods of divination easily transcend the issue of distance. The methods of psychic readings performed online do not generally vary at all from the methods employed in person. Adjustments may be made to account for distance, or the lack of personal contact with the client, but for the most part the core of the reading is the same. All that usually differs is the delivery mechanism: e-mail or instant chat, rather than face to face communication. The primary methods by which online psychic readings are performed are as follows:
Live Chat
In a live chat scenario, the psychic reader and client enter an online chat room. This may take place over an instant messaging client such as MSN, Yahoo Instant Messenger or AOL Instant Messenger, or it may take place in a chatroom owned by the online psychic. In either case, live chat with an online psychic can allow for more personal contact. Speaking with an online psychic reader via live chat is fairly similar to speaking with them over the phone, but it carries with it the advantages of multitaskability and accessibility.
Speaking to a psychic reader over the phone demands the full and complete focus of the client. Speaking to an online psychic via live chat can free the client for other simultaneous tasks with no ultimate effect on the reading, as long as it doesn't inhibit their ability to communicate with the psychic reader.
The advantage of accessibility comes from the online aspect. Wireless cell phone coverage predates wireless internet access, but there are numerous circumstances in which it is difficult to speak aloud to anyone, psychic readers included. Live chat can defray this difficulty somewhat.
While live chat may permit the client of a psychic reader to multitask, the reader will almost invariably be putting their full effort forward and working with a single client at a time. Forms of psychic divination vary widely, but they frequently require the full focus of a reader.
Contacting psychic readers via e-mail is still a relatively new practice, but it does predate live chat. E-mail communiques are, much as they are in common social practice, far more elaborate than simple instant messages. E-mail communication is very similar to mail correspondance, which is now employed only rarely. In any case, it allows for far more detailed expressions on the part of both the client and psychic reader; the client has more space and time to explain their situation, and the psychic reader has more time to divine and meditate as necessary.
Naturally, not all online psychic readers employ e-mail. It is a more dated practice and is falling out of favor in our impatient world, but the elements that make e-mail unique from phone conversation and live chat keep it in use.
VoIP
Many psychic readers can be contacted via voice over IP. This is effectively very similar to contacting a psychic reader over the phone, but carries with it some distinctions. First and foremost, VoIP allows for a greater degree of privacy in a client's dealings with a psychic reader. Charges incurred will not be presented on a phone bill, which may be a point of concern for a client.

The next step beyond phone contact or VoIP. Some online psychic readers are willing to commit their services where their clients can see them. The irony of the juxtaposition is not lost on many psychic readers, many of whom consider themselves to be practicing an ancient art, in using the cutting-edge of communications technology speculative fiction had promised for so many years, to aid in their readings.
Webcams allow for maximum accessibility, heading off the many potentialities that can keep a client from visiting with a psychic reader. Inclement weather, geographic removal and everything in between is nullified by the advent of video chat. It is the closest equivalent to being in person with a psychic reader that can be found without actually being in person. That said, it is not in the full favor of many psychic readers. There is a difference between being in the room with a reader and simply being able to see the reader, and many feel that their psychic readings do require them to meet with their clients in person. But, again, these are not individuals that will be practicing online.
Payment varies between different types of online psychic reading. Many psychic readers will allow for a free demonstration of their prowess for the benefit of the client's trust, but following that, payment is of course required for further services.
Live chat frequently is charged for by the minute. The clock usually starts when the chat session does, and the client and reader communicate freely. Sometimes this is scheduled for a set length of time, with a customer free to make extensions as necessary. Other readers prefer to simply charge on an interval, usually every three minutes.
E-mail correspondance is handled differently. Generally, payment is rendered on a per-message basis, but because e-mail correspondance is relatively uncommon, it is difficult to ascribe a single standard of pay to it. Some psychic readers treat a single e-mail exchange as a session of face to face communication and charge accordingly.
Voice over IP is almost always metered by a period of minutes, not unlike live chat. Some psychic readers prefer to handle such conversations by appointment, however, and will charge for a certain length of conversation for the reading.
Video chat is generally charged for either in the same manner as live chat, by the minute, or is else parceled out into appointment length, as with face-to-face meetings. Generally, there is no option to extend these appointments after the alloted time has run out.
Because payment methods vary widely, the client should always look into the policies of the online psychic reader they wish to contact in advance.
It is always, always important to build up a good rapport with one's psychic reader. This is nearly doubly true online. Much like building relationships over the internet, whether it be for friendship or dating, the distance and limited forms of communication do cause a definite loss in translation with all communications. Thus, it is best for clients and psychics alike to invest at least a little time into communication prior to establishing any sort of long-term relationship for psychic readings. This will help to facilitate communication between the psychic reader and client, help the reader to attune to the client's needs, and most of all, will guarantee that the client and reader alike get along!
